| What is F.M. Alexander Technique ? | |||||||
| With the F. M. Alexander Technique, a scientifically based method
related directly to the body, we are able to relearn to deal with ourselves in a natural and balanced
manner. The Tasmanian Frederick Matthias Alexander (1869-1955) assumed that all mental, physical and spiritual processes in the human body are interconnected and our organism therefore constitutes a unity with each and every activity. His conviction, that the manner in which we deal with ourselves is to a great degree crucial to the quality of all our bodily functions, is the foundation of F. M. Alexander's discoveries. For years he researched, strictly empirically, for ways to allow humans to recognize their own reactions and behavior in their daily lives and, if need be, make appropriate changes. He discovered that for optimal physical coordination the relationship between the neck, head and back is of significant importance. The balance in this relationship is decisive for a free and relaxed control of all our movement patterns. Most of the time we pay too little attention to the manner in which we deal with our bodies. We let ourselves fall into automated movements and unconscious behavior patterns which become more and more a part of ourselves as time goes on. With the Alexander technique we can learn to recognize restrictive behavior patterns. By consciously pausing between stimulation and reaction we prevent the reoccurrence of old habits and at the same time discover new possibilities and behavior choices. |

| The Instruction | |||||||
| Alexander instructors use manual and verbal impulses to teach the
process of new orientation. The principles of Alexander technique are achieved by the pupil with the help
of the teacher both in resting, sitting and standing positions and in everyday movements such as getting
up and walking. Schooled powers of observation and perception enable the teacher to point out even the
slightest actions or positions of the body which could impair the quality of the pupil's life style. The development of a comprehensive self-perception allows the pupil to experience and feel the effects of free, well coordinated and economical movements. This dependable, differentiated estimation of their movements (Kinaesthetic) enables those working with the Alexander technique to consciously influence their actions and discover their own creative potential. |

| Who is Alexander Technique for ? | |||||||
| On one hand persons of all ages who are generally interested in improving the coordination and application of their psychological and physical powers have come to work with the Alexander technique. Among them are often those with a professional interest such as musicians, dancers, actors and sports people. On the other hand this integral schooling of the self enables people not only to handle pain or the after-effects of illness or accidents better, but even to gradually overcame the same. | |||||||
